ABOUT:
Tommy Dorsey was an extremely successful band leader from the 1930’s until his untimely passing in 1956. His technical skill on the trombone was unmatched and made him world renowned amongst musicians and the public alike. He had a string of hit records including Opus One, Marie and Song Of India.
Frank Sinatra left the Harry James Orchestra in late 1939 to join Tommy Dorsey, making his first public appearance with the band in early 1940. Sinatra credited Tommy with teaching him breath control which helped to create such vocal classics as There Are Such Things, This Love Of Mine and I’ll Never Smile Again. Sinatra stayed with The TDO until September 1942 when he embarked on his iconic, remarkable solo career.
